Literary Works
Drawings, screenprints, and digital art by Frank Kiely.
Frank Kiely is celebrated for his punchy cityscapes of London and other places. Alongside this body of work, Kiely makes pictures that are inspired by some of the most celebrated literary figures: William Shakespeare, Jonathan Swift, and James Joyce. Kiely finds that certain themes or questions that are raised in these works are universal and are still relevant today. He reimagines aspects of these stories in a 21st century context, altering aspects of the original text and occasionally putting in an autobiographical reference. The James Joyce Centre in Dublin, Ireland has held two exhibition of his work relating to Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Dubliners books.
