Enroll in English courses with NNLC! Northern Nevada Literacy Council (NNLC) is pleased to provide an on-site instructor to teach English Language Acquisition (ELA) at the Sierra View Library. NNLC’s curriculum is based on the Cambridge Ventures textbooks and student workbooks, a six-level, standards-based, integrated skills series for Adult Education, aligned to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), the National Reporting System for Adult Education (NRS), which is the accountability system for Federally-funded adult education programs, English Language Proficiency, and College and Career Readiness standards.

ELA will be offered during the morning from 9:00 am-11:30 am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Call NNLC at (775) 356-1007 to register.

Sparks Library's ongoing computer classes are designed to give beginners a proper introduction to various computer programs and actions. In this class, students will learn the following:

• Signing up, usernames and passwords, logging in and out, reading and replying
• Reply all, composing, inbox, sent mail, trash, drafts, To/CC/BCC, formatting, spell check, folders and filters
• Attachments, email safety, viruses, forwarding, contacts
• Spam, phishing, privacy, review and practice

Prerequisites:

• Mouse and keyboard proficiency
• Using tabs and browsers

A presentation of the Nevada Historical Society, High Noon with Neal Cobb is a monthly history series that delves into Nevada topics with local experts. Neal Cobb is a passionate historian and honorary curator for the Nevada Historical Society. Each month he is joined by a different guest presenter.

LaVere Redfield was a character: a keen investor in the stock market and real estate; anti-government (especially the IRS); a ruthless businessman; a man who didn’t trust banks; a high-stakes gambler; a philanderer; a victim of at least two high-profile robberies; a man who hated to have his photo taken, and a notorious hoarder. Using extensive research, local historians David and Gayle Woodruff examine the story of one of Reno’s least known and most eccentric “public” figures.

David and Gayle Woodruff offer history programs throughout Lake Tahoe, the Carson Valley, and Eastern Sierra, often bringing their characters to life in Chautauqua performances. The Woodruffs have written a series of three books about Highway 395 called Tales Along El Camino Sierra and a book on the Furnace Creek Resort called Magnificent Oasis.

The SO Very Literary Book Club meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month from 2:00-3:30 pm. Everyone is welcome.  

For 2025, join us in a science fair unlike any other!  A year of books from many branches of science - from cooking to neuroscience to great adventures in the wilderness.  Even science fiction. True to our name, The SO (South Valleys) Very Literary Book Club, aims for great discussions on carefully selected titles. ‘25 is our Science Fair

Discover and explore innovative technologies, dive into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities, or navigate a maker world. Discover Thursdays are every 1st and 3rd Thursday. Recommended for ages 6 and up. Registration is required. 

Diverse Abilities Connect and Play is a monthly meet-up for pre-K and school-aged children with a focus on neurodivergence and extra support needs.  Families can network while kids practice social skills with fun hands-on activities.  Drop in from 4:00-5:30.   

Join us for a fun weekly project in science, technology, engineering, art, or math. Geared especially for children ages six (6) and up.

Children under ten (10) years old must be supervised by a caregiver who is at least 13 years old, is able to tend to the child's safety, and is able to ensure appropriate behavior.

Enjoy Creativity Flow: Abstracts, a new exhibit in a variety of media by members of the Latimer Art Club, a local art group founded in 1921. Meet the artists, discuss their processes, and see the exhibit, which will be on display at the Sparks Library through April.

Our Weeknight Artist Retreat is a program for artists and art lovers alike. Every Thursday we will provide a unique still life to practice your artistic skills. A staff person will be there to assist and mentor each session.

Beyond the Matrix is a body of work capturing Jordyn Owens' journey through a profound transformation upon realizing the influence of societal structures, or the "matrix," that distract from true self-connection. Inspired by her decision to leave a seemingly perfect but deeply toxic opportunity, Owens uses this series to explore breaking free from these illusions and rediscovering inner truth.

The show, Beyond the Matrix, will run from Saturday, March 1 through Sunday, April 20. 

The public are invited to meet the artist and discuss their process at the art reception on Saturday, March 15, from 1pm - 2pm. 

See past winners of the Silver State Fair Housing Council's annual Fair Housing Month Poster Contest. Winners were selected from entries submitted by Washoe County School District students between first and eighth grade. The contest "is designed to teach young people that all Nevadans have equal access to housing regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, family status, disability, ancestry, sexual orientation and gender identity/expression."
