LaVere Redfield was a character: a keen investor in the stock market and real estate; anti-government (especially the IRS); a ruthless businessman; a man who didn’t trust banks; a high-stakes gambler; a philanderer; a victim of at least two high-profile robberies; a man who hated to have his photo taken, and a notorious hoarder. Using extensive research, local historians David and Gayle Woodruff examine the story of one of Reno’s least known and most eccentric “public” figures. David and Gayle Woodruff offer history programs throughout Lake Tahoe, the Carson Valley, and Eastern Sierra, often bringing their characters to life in Chautauqua performances. The Woodruffs have written a series of three books about Highway 395 called Tales Along El Camino Sierra and a book on the Furnace Creek Resort called Magnificent Oasis. Register to join High Noon with Neal Cobb on Zoom. All episodes are streamed live on Facebook, and recordings of past episodes are available on the library’s YouTube channel.
