The Spanish Springs Library is located on the Pyramid Highway in Spanish Springs. Our building is based on a Native American hogan dwelling and is octagonal in shape, set off by a 64-foot ceiling over the atrium. You'll find comfortable seating, 21 public access/internet computers, a Wireless Work Zone, and children’s STEAM toys, and game computers. Features include meeting rooms and a one-person virtual Zoom Room Phone Booth Pod that can be reserved online, a drive-through service point to pick up and drop off materials, and a 24-hour book return with an automated materials handler that checks items in as you return them.
Located outside the library, in front of our east-facing picture windows, is a Sensory Sound Garden that is open to all 24 hours a day. It features two sit-on cajón drums, a Cavatina xylophone, and a diatonic Freechime. Come past our Customer Service desk and ask for our selection of color-coded music sheets and music stand, and then head outside to make some beautiful music and memories—all ages and abilities welcome!
Inside the library we have an extended floor map with a bird’s eye view from Spanish Springs Library all the way to Pyramid Lake.
The Nell J. Redfield Foundation Young People's Library features a unique, oversized stack of books at the entrance and a separate story time room and STEAM play area. Seven public computers (four internet computers including an adult station, so parents and children can work side by side and three children’s games computers) and a family restroom complete this family-friendly space.
Our newly remodeled Teens Only is a unique space designed for teens to get their homework done and socialize with one another. This area has moveable worktables for large study groups and cafe tables for smaller groups, six Internet stations, and a 21-foot chalkboard wall on which to capture notes or create artwork.
Teens Only has a gaming emulation station with comfortable lounge chairs for teens to enjoy while challenging each other on a variety of retro console games. A board games cabinet features popular physical games such as Dungeons & Dragon: The Temple of Elemental Evil, Mysterium, Pandemic, Sorry, Mancala, Bears vs Babies, and more. A video and music TV featuring "chill" music and videos of exotic locales inspires the imagination as you visit with friends or work on homework.
Programs for all ages are offered at Spanish Springs Library, including weekly Story Time and two Toddler Times, a monthly Baby Social, guest speakers, craft programs, book discussion, art exhibitions, computer coding classes, LEGO Robotics, a weekly teen Dungeons & Dragons program, and more! Seasonal offerings include early and election day voting.
An ADA computer station with a braille keyboard and printer, JAWS (software that reads to you), Magic (magnification software), and OpenBook (optical scanning software with scanner) is available for public use.
The E.L. Cord community meeting rooms provide space for groups to meet, both during library hours and after the library is closed.
Self-serve features include self check-out stations, the ability to pick up holds, download demonstration stations, a Wireless Work Zone ready for you to sit down, plug in and log on with your own device, a public fax machine, flatbed scanners and automated computer sign-ups. Wireless internet access and printing are also available, as well as study rooms on a first-come basis.
The atmosphere is enhanced by the cozy fireplace, an art gallery, and comfortable seating and study areas throughout the building.
As part of Washoe County Library System, users have access to a wide range of books, music, movies, and books on CD. Downloadable ebooks, audio books, and magazines are also available.
With a distinctive Native American design, the decor features petroglyphs from local caves and a carpet treatment featuring a traditional Paiute basket weave pattern in the atrium. Animal silhouettes and hoof and paw prints can be discovered in tiling throughout the library.
