Defendant Sentenced on 7th DUI Conviction

Repeat DUI Offender Sentenced to 10 Year Prison Term

Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks has announced that Darin Conway Dorsey, age 54, from Sacramento, California has been sentenced to 10 years in prison following a recent Driving Under the Influence (DUI) conviction. Dorsey, who had 6 prior DUI, previously pled guilty in May to one count of DUI, with Prior Felony Conviction and was sentenced last week to a term of 120 months in prison, with parole eligibility set by the court to begin in 4 years. The maximum term for the charge in this case is a term of 2 to 15 years in prison.

The case against Dorsey began in May 2020 when the Reno Police Department (RPD) conduced a traffic stop of a vehicle operating without headlights. Dorsey, who was the driver of the vehicle, appeared intoxicated and was ultimately determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol. RPD also determined that Dorsey had several prior felony DUI convictions, with the most recent being 2016. An analysis of Dorsey’s blood alcohol level resulted in a finding of .148, which is over two times to Nevada established legal limit.

During sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Alison Ormaas presented evidence of this defendant’s prior DUI convictions and argued that Dorsey poses a significant risk to the community based on his continued drinking and driving.
