Sexual Predator Sentenced to 10 Consecutive Life Terms in Prison – Parole Eligibility Set to Begin After 275 years
Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks has announced that William Rene Alfaro, age 64 from Reno has been sentenced to 10 consecutive life terms in prison, with parole eligibility after a minimum of 275 years has been served. The sentence is a result of a March jury trial conviction on multiple counts of Sexual Assault on a Child Under the Age of Fourteen Years and Lewdness with a Child Under the Age of Fourteen Years. Specifically, Alfaro was found guilty of 7 counts of Sexual Assault on a Child Under the Age of Fourteen Years and 3 counts of Lewdness with a Child Under the Age of Fourteen and was sentenced today in Department 8 of Washoe County District Court by Judge Barry Breslow.
The investigation against Alfaro began when a female victim reported to social workers with the Washoe County Human Services Agency that the defendant had been sexually abusing her since she was 8 years old. Detectives with the Reno Police Department Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit worked in conjunction with the Washoe County Child Advocacy Center. Based on interviews with the victim and witnesses, as well as evidence collected from the defendant’s motel room, detectives determined that the defendant had been sexually assaulting the victim for over 2 years. During that time, Alfaro forced the young victim to perform sexual acts on multiple occasions and threatened her so that she would not disclose the abuse. Alfaro was arrested at the conclusion of the investigation.
During sentencing, Chief Deputy District Attorney Peg Samples argued that a lengthy sentence was just and fair considering the trauma Mr. Alfaro forced the young victim to suffer.
