Washoe County Health District transitions to Tier 2 COVID-19 vaccine administration

Only educators will be vaccinated at this time

Jan. 8, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Washoe County Health District is administering COVID-19 vaccines to educators in Tier 2 on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, per the State’s COVID-19 Vaccine Playbook.

The Health District is working with the Washoe County School District and other private and charter K-12 schools to administer the vaccine to educators while continuing to vaccinate remaining members of Tier 1. To see the list of groups in Tiers 1-4, go here.

The State and the Health District are working on plans to vaccinate other groups in Tier 2, including seniors 75 years and older. The Health District will release follow-up information on when other groups in Tier 2 will be vaccinated. Seniors 75 and older will be added to Tier 2 upon release of the updated State COVID-19 Vaccine Playbook, which is expected soon.

Educators in Washoe County should contact their school officials for details on how to schedule an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine. The Health District cannot accept appointments over the phone or via email. Those who will receive the vaccine must make an appointment through their school.

Those who show up to receive the vaccine without an appointment will be turned away at the vaccine check-in station.

“The Health District is working tirelessly to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to as many people as possible, as quickly as possible,” said Kevin Dick, District Health Officer for Washoe County. “Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine are safe and effective ways to prevent getting COVID-19, so we understand the urgency to rollout this vaccine quickly. We ask for patience as we move to different groups within Tier 2 and for residents to continue to wear a mask, social distance and refrain from hosting or attending small gatherings to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community.”
