Prison Sentence Secured in Aggravated Stalking Case

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has secured a 15-year prison term against a defendant convicted on one count of Aggravated Stalking. Donald Eugene Jackson, 28, from Washoe County pled guilty to the charge in July and was sentenced earlier this week in Washoe County District Court.

Jackson was arrested in Florence, Arizona in January and subsequently extradited to Washoe County after an investigation by the Sparks Police Department determined that he had engaged in a pattern of threatening behavior towards a female acquaintance, who he began aggressively stalking after a brief encounter. The victim reported she had received numerous threating text messages from Jackson over the course of several months in 2019. These texts included threats against the victim’s dog and her property, as well as unwanted calls to her family and friends in attempts to gather information. During this time, Jackson was also on parole for a previous Aggravated Stalking conviction out of Las Vegas. In that case, Jackson was stalking a former girlfriend who shot him when he was caught climbing into her home.  

At sentencing, Deputy District Attorney (DDA) Travis Lucia highlighted the terrifying nature of the Defendant’s conduct, noting that he was only on parole for a prior conviction for aggravated stalking for one (1) month before engaging in the same behavior again. In asking for the maximum sentence, DDA Lucia noted that prisons were built for people like Jackson, whose violent and repetitive criminal record justified 15 years in State prison.
