Real-time look at Swan Lake water levels with live stream
Reno, Nev. Dec. 9, 2019. As part of the maintenance ahead of the winter season and to educate and inform the community about Swan Lake, Washoe County has launched a LakeCam in Lemmon Valley with a real-time look at Swan Lake water levels.
The LakeCam, includes a large sign marked with water levels as well as a camera with a live stream for added transparency. As rain falls and there is potential lake rise, residents and community members will be able to see in real time exactly how Swan Lake is responding to the increased precipitation. It also includes information regarding past lake levels and the protection level of the barrier systems around the lake.
“We’ve heard our residents living around Swan Lake, and understand their concerns about rising lake levels” says Dave Solaro, Assistant County Manager. “We wanted to provide them with a tool that will put in context what the current lake level means in terms of past years. Our hope is that this will provide our residents with some relief that we have proper protections in place around the lake. Especially heading into the winter and spring season where we see more precipitation.”

Additionally, Washoe County crews have also been working with the Washoe County School District to place additional HESCO barriers around Lemmon Valley Elementary School. Crews have been working to get these barriers in place along with stormwater pumps and sandbags to provide added protection to the school ahead of increased precipitation this winter.
Washoe County is dedicated to effectively maintaining protections around the lake, which are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure the safety of the community and the traveling public.
