Washoe County advises residents to be prepared for storm

Residents advised to make preparations

Reno, Nev. Feb. 12, 2019. With the Reno National Weather Service forecasting a highly-variable storm, expecting to bring in high winds and potentially rain or snow. With snow remaining from the recent storm over the weekend, Washoe County officials are urging residents to make preparations.

Preparations advised:

• Check ditches and culverts and remove any debris, even a small object can cause a backup and overwhelm ditches.
• High winds are expected and it is recommended to secure loose objects.
• Travel impacts on area roads could occur, if you must travel, allow for plenty of time and take caution.
• Should the storm bring heavy snow, please be patient and make way for snow plows. Roads crews have been working tirelessly and will be dispatched throughout the storm period and will focus on keeping roadways safe.
• Flooding possible for snow-clogged drainage areas, poor drainage areas and small streams. Rises in streams and drainage ways are possible due to existing snow. Residents living near these areas should see a list of sandbag locations listed below.

The following is a list of sandbag locations:

• Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Station #223, 130 Nectar St., Lemmon Valley
• Lemmon Drive and Pompe Way intersection, Lemmon Valley
• Blue Heron Circle and Warrior Lane intersection, Belli Ranch
• Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Station #30, 3905 Old Hwy 395, Washoe Valley
• Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Station #16, 1240 Eastlake Blvd, Washoe Valley
• Washoe County Operations Yard, 3101 Longley Lane, Reno
• Highland Ranch Parkway, one mile west of Pyramid Hwy, Sparks
• Andrew Lane and Paddlewheel Lane intersection, Pleasant Valley
• Intersection of Toll Road and Geiger Grade

Residents should also be prepared to fill sandbags with a shovel and gloves. For a video on how to sandbag, click here.
