Holiday Library Closures
On Tuesday, December 31, the Duncan/Traner, Gerlach, and Verdi libraries will be closed. The Senior Center Library will close at 1 pm, and all other Washoe County Libraries will close at 4 pm. On Wednesday, January 1, all Washoe County Library locations will be closed for New Year's Day.

New Resource Offers Balanced Perspective on Current Events and Issues

Points of View Reference Center provides content that can help students assess and develop persuasive arguments and essays, better understand controversial issues, and develop analytical thinking skills.

Writing a persuasive essay? Searching for a good debate topic? Look no further than Points of View Reference Center™, a database from EBSCO available with your Washoe County Library account. Containing resources that present diverse perspectives on important issues and events, Points of View Reference Center has the information you need to better understand controversial issues and craft persuasive arguments – in speech and in writing.

With Points of View Reference Center, you can search for articles by keyword or browse topics by category, and read background articles and position essays on 400 core topics in over 30 categories including:

  • Arts and culture
  • Citizens’ rights
  • Censorship
  • Earth and the environment
  • Family issues
  • Foreign policy   
  • Human rights
  • Immigration
  • Race and culture

Designed to be helpful for educators, the content in Points of View Reference Center supports curriculum standards that ask students to analyze informational texts and hone their critical thinking skills. Reading level indicators (Lexile® Measures) are included, in order to provide educators with an estimate of the search result’s reading difficulty and the approximate reading ability required for comprehension.
