Eight new firefighters welcomed to the District

Reno, Nev. June 19, 2018. To follow are highlights from today’s Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Board of Fire Commissioners Meeting:

Badge Pinning Ceremony: After 12 weeks at the Carson City Regional Fire Academy, Fire Commissioners welcomed and congratulated eight new firefighters that have joined the ranks at the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.  “We are really proud to recognize and welcome two women, and six men to the Truckee Meadows Fire Team,” said TMFPD Fire Chief Charles Moore.  “These additional fire and rescue professionals have dedicated themselves to serving our community and will help respond to our growing emergency call volumes throughout the Truckee Meadows.”

Fire Agency Operating Plans: Fire Commissioners approved three (3) annual operating plans between the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and the City of Sparks, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, and Carson City Fire Department. Operating agreements between fire agencies serve to define mutual and automatic aid parameters during wildland fires, and continue the practice of sharing critical firefighting resources ultimately providing a higher level of safety and service from TMFPD. The agreements also outline expectations and operating protocols between agencies, along with reimbursement rates and shared responsibilities.

Sale agreement of former fire station property: Fire Commissioners approved a sale and purchase agreement in the amount of $950,000 with Southtowne Crossing, LLC. Southtowne will purchase the property at 12300 Old Virginia Road. The former TMFPD Station 14 was in dire need of replacement due to age and is functionally obsolete. The building was worn and served by modular buildings, and the truck bay flooded whenever there was a storm event. Additionally, the current location is not ideal as the station is located in a highly-congested retail center. Proceeds from the sale will be placed into the TMFPD capital fund. The new station has been operational since June 11.

Donation: The Fire Commissioners accepted a $100 donation from Reno residents Mike and Marlys Berry in support of TMFPD Station 14, A-Shift Staff.
