Wilbur D. May Arboretum Needs Volunteers

Opportunities in bloom to lead tours, gardening and more

Reno, Nev. Feb. 16, 2018. The Wilbur D. May Arboretum, at the heart of Washoe County’s Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, is in need of volunteers to work in the gardens and help with new educational programs. The Arboretum is hosting an upcoming training with opportunities to learn about finer parts of gardening, becoming an interpreter/educator for our tours and educational school programs. 

Volunteers will have opportunities to lead garden walks, assist with field trips, and help with early childhood education. In addition, to better prepare potential volunteers the Arboretum will be hosting individual specialty classes that will cover subjects from soils, plant propagation to pruning:

What: May Arboretum Volunteer Training Course

When: Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00-11:30 a.m., beginning Feb. 27-Mar. 20

Where: Wilbur D. May Arboretum, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, Ranch House, 1595 N. Sierra Street

Details: $25 per person for the entire series with a 25-hour volunteer commitment. Visit www.washoecountyparks.com for the complete class schedule. Space is limited to 30 people and preregistration is required. Training course offered once per year.

The Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a living museum and active educational resource, illustrating how plant life adapts and survives in the rugged climate between the Sierra Nevada and Great Basin.  The Arboretum is located in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park and is operated and managed by Washoe County through its Community Services Department. The Arboretum benefits by continued support from the Wilbur D. May Foundation, members of the May Arboretum Society and the community at large.
