WCDA Sentencing Result - Defendant in Cold Springs Crime Spree Receives 18 Year Prison Term
The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office is announcing that a local man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison following convictions on multiple counts of residential burglary and a charge of home invasion. The prosecution stems from a series of burglaries in the Cold Springs area investigated by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office early last year. The sentence ensures that the defendant must serve 6 years in prison before parole eligibility begins.
Jordan Tyler Davis, 18, originally from Louisiana, pled guilty last November to two counts of Residential Burglary While in Possession of a Deadly Weapon, one count of Home Invasion While in Possession of a Deadly Weapon and two counts of Residential Burglary. He was sentenced Monday in Washoe County District Court to 18 years in prison by Judge David Hardy. The conviction was the result of an investigation that began in June, 2017 when the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded to a report of a burglary. The victim reported returning home to find items of jewelry missing and signs of a break in. A day later, a second report of a burglary was received from a victim who lived in the same general area as the first victim. In this case, the homeowner reported hearing a loud noise coming from the back of the home. When the victim investigated the source of the noise, she discovered that her home had been broken into and her wallet missing. WCSO patrol deputies responded to additional reports of burglaries over the next several days, including cases involving theft of jewelry, firearms, ammunition, personal identification information, cash and heirlooms. When interviewed by WCSO detectives, several of the victims gave similar descriptions of a suspicious person seen in the area around the times the thefts took place. On June 23, 2017, WCSO deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the same neighborhood as the rash of prior burglaries. When patrol units arrived, they met with a female victim who reported that she was home alone when confronted by an unknown armed male, later identified as Davis. Davis had entered the home and pointed a handgun at the victim, who was holding her infant son at the time. The defendant fled and the victim immediately called 911. WCSO deputies responded quickly and were able to locate Davis walking in the area of the victim’s home. When contacted, Davis was found to be in possession of a handgun that had been stolen in one of the previous burglaries. Two additional stolen handguns were also located hidden in the Cold Springs area. Davis admitted to having pawned multiple jewelry items, which detectives were able to recover. Davis was linked to the burglaries and additional stolen property was recovered during a search of his home. He was arrested and this office filed formal criminal charges against him.
At sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Darcy Cameron argued that the defendant’s actions were deliberate, calculated and without regard to the effect such a tremendous violation would have on his victims. In addition to family possessions, the defendant took something from all them that can never be replaced – a sense of peace and safety in their own homes.
