WCDA Secures Conviction in Felony Battery Prosecution
The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has secured a guilty verdict in a felony battery trial that began last Monday in Washoe County District Court. The case stemmed from a March, 2017 incident in which a casino host was repeatedly punched in the face during an unprovoked attack. The defendant faces up to 5 years in prison and sentencing is set for April 16, 2018 in Department 8 of District Court.
Andrew Campbell-Moss, 35,from Reno, was arrested last June following the issuance of an arrest warrant for battery resulting in substantial bodily harm. Prior to his arrest, Campbell-Moss was linked to an incident that took place inside the Lex nightclub at the Grand Sierra Resort by the Reno Police Department (RPD). In March, RPD patrol officers were called to investigate the attack of an employee of the casino by a patron of the nightclub. Officers determined that an employee host was seated with several guests when Campbell-Moss approached him and began yelling at the man. According to the victim and witnesses, Campbell-Moss’s girlfriend was one of the people seated at the table that the host was speaking with. This angered Campbell-Moss, who apparently became jealous and began punching the victim in the face. The victim’s nose was broken and he sustained significant bruising and swelling, injuries that ultimately requiring surgery to treat. Campbell-Moss left the casino immediately after the attack and was not immediately located. RPD submitted the case to this office for a warrant and Campbell-Moss was ultimately arrested during a traffic stop.
During the trial, Deputy District Attorney Zelalem Bogale presented testimony from the emergency room physician who treated the victim after the attack as well as CT scan images of the injuries, which showed a severely broken nose that required plastic surgery to fix.
