DA's Office Secures Year in Jail for Man Convicted on Gross Lewdness Charges
The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has announced that a Sparks man has been sentenced to 364 days in jail, the maximum sentence available for his charge, which stems from a 2016 lewdness case involving the inappropriate touching of a young female music student by her instructor. In addition to the jail sentence, the defendant will have to register as a sex offender.
William Weiser, 69, from Sparks pled guilty in December to one count of Open or Gross Lewdness, a gross misdemeanor in Nevada at the time the offense was committed. Weiser was sentenced yesterday to 364 days in the Washoe County Jail.
In July, 2016 the Reno Police Department (RPD) began an investigation into a report that Weiser had touched a 16 year old girl inappropriately while providing her with music lessons. The victim reported that Weiser was her music instructor and that he had touched her buttocks, waist and forced open mouth kisses on her while at his Reno studio. RPD Detectives began an investigation and Weiser was ultimately charged by this office.
At sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Nickolas Graham argued that Weiser’s standing in the community led the victim to implicitly trust him, and that the betrayal of that trust to further sexual interests, was reprehensible.
