Highlights from the Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting

County Commission and Reno City Council approve amendment to Reno-Stead Corridor Joint Plan.

Reno, Nevada. Aug. 16, 2016. The following report highlights several important agenda items from the Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016. Board of County Commissioners approve amendment to the Reno-Stead Corridor Joint Plan. County Commissioners and the Reno City Council held a special meeting on Tuesday to discuss the Reno-Stead Corridor Joint Plan (RSCJP). Commissioners and the Council approved the amendment to the plan, which removed 55.5 acres south of Sky Vista Parkway and west of Trading Post Road.

The property will go from a High Density Suburban/Low Density Residential in the RSCJP to Mixed Residential, which allows for three-21 dwelling units per acre under the City of Reno Master Plan.

The amendment was approved by the Reno and Washoe County Planning Commissions and presented to the Washoe County North Valleys Citizens Advisory Board and the Reno Ward Four Neighborhood Advisory Board. An additional Neighborhood Meeting was held Nov. 19, 2015 at Stead Elementary School.

The purpose for the RSCJP is to identify a framework for future growth and development for residents and property owners.

Washoe County Planning and Development Division staff reviewed and submitted concerns to the amendment regarding cooperative agreements with police and fire protection as well as issues surrounding conservation, land use, travel safety and parks and open spaces. The City of Reno provided sufficient responses to each issue.

County Purchasing Office wins procurement award for the 21^st straight year. Washoe County Comptroller – Purchasing Division was awarded the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement by the National Purchasing Institute (NPI) for the 21st year in a row. This prestigious award is earned by organizations that demonstrate excellence by obtaining a high score based on standardized criteria. The criteria are designed to measure innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement and leadership attributes of the procurement organization.

Washoe County is one of only six agencies in Nevada and one of only 48 counties in the United States and Canada to receive the award.

County Commissioners accepted the following donations:

• County Commissioners accepted $6,944.53 in donations for Washoe County Regional Animal Services at Tuesday’s Board of County Commissioners meeting. The money will be used to take care of sick, injured, stray, abandoned or at-risk animals.
• $642.74 in cash donations were given to Senior Services from June 1, 2016 through June 30, 2016.
• Donation of $25 by Donna Clark to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office for operating costs.
