One small donation makes one gigantic difference for local seniors
City of Reno, RTC, and Washoe County Senior Services launch Stuff-a-Bus for Seniors Donation Drive.
Reno, Nevada. May 18, 2015. The City of Reno, Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), and Washoe County Senior Services have collaborated to create the Stuff-a-Bus for Seniors Donation Drive, today through May 29, 2015.
The two-week drive supports local seniors and provides daily essentials to those in need. Donation barrels have been placed in key public and sponsor locations.
To help support the effort, the Reno Aces will close out the Stuff-a-Bus for Seniors Donation Drive by offering those who bring a donation to the stadium between 4-7 p.m. on Friday, May 29 a buy-one, get-one-free ticket to one of three Aces home games, June 1-3.
“This is a great community service initiative for the Reno area and an opportunity for us to come together to make sure our senior citizens are well taken care of,” Reno City Councilmember and RTC Chair Neoma Jardon says. “It is exciting to see the business community getting involved as the Stuff-a-Bus program expands this year. I am so thankful to see the generosity of this community year after year.”
Items needed include light-weight jackets and sweats, wrapped cleaning supplies, toiletries, and air circulation fans for the hot summer months. Also needed are gift cards for groceries, haircuts, pet supplies, and entertainment as well as bus passes and RTC ACCESS ticket books to allow seniors 10 ACCESS rides to and from doctors appoints and to fulfill other transportation needs.
Donation items and gift cards can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at a number of public locations in Reno, including the first and second floor of City Hall, Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center on Valley Road, the Neil Road Recreation Center, and the RTC offices located at 2050 Villanova.
On Friday, May 29, the donation bus will be parked in front of Aces Ballpark on Evans Avenue from 4-7 p.m. One small donation will make one gigantic difference in the life of a local senior.
