Pled Guilty to Bigamy, Forgery, and Offering False Evidence

A former Washoe County Sheriff’s sergeant has been sentenced to 3 years in prison, with parole eligibility after 12 months.

Dennis Carry (dob 6/22/74) had previously pled guilty to Forgery, Bigamy, and Offering False Evidence. The Honorable Judge Thomas Gregory of Douglas County presided and imposed the sentencing of the three felonies, with each being 12-36 months, to run concurrently.

“Carry breached the public trust through his repeated abuse of power in furthering his own deceit and self-interest,” said DA Chris Hicks. “His course of conduct in breaking the very laws he was sworn to enforce is shameful. Today is a just ending to a disappointing story”

Carry was arrested back in 2021 after it was discovered that he had entered the Washoe County Courthouse and altered his marriage records to his first wife, in order to marry another woman.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Luke Prengaman prosecuted Carry on behalf of the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.
