Jury Returns Guilty Verdict for Attempted Murder

Victim Blinded and Partially Paralyzed

A jury has returned a guilty verdict on all counts for 19-year-old Julian Lupercio-Trejo. He was charged with Attempted Murder with the Use of a Deadly Weapon, Battery with Use of a Deadly Weapon Resulting in Substantial Bodily Harm, Discharging a Firearm at or Into an Occupied Vehicle, Burglary of a Motor Vehicle with Use of a Deadly Weapon, and Mayhem. 

In August of 2022, Sparks Police responded to reports of a shooting at North McCarran Boulevard and Sullivan Lane. When officers arrived on the scene, they found an 18-year-old male sitting in a car with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the face. Doctors would later discover that the victim had suffered four bullet wounds.

Two female witnesses in the car told police that while the victim was stopped at a red light, another car pulled alongside. Lupercio-Trejo then got out of that vehicle and walked to the driver’s side of the victim’s car, where he began pistol-whipping the male victim before shooting him. During the investigation, police learned that the victim had previously been a co-worker of Lupercio-Trejo’s and had been threatening the victim for more than a year. It was also discovered that Lupercio-Trejo was the ex-boyfriend of one of the women in the car. 

During the trial, Deputy District Attorney Rachael Chesterfield highlighted the violent nature of the acts and the extent of the victim’s injuries, including permanent loss of eyesight in one eye and partial facial paralysis. 

Sentencing is set for October 2, 2023. The Honorable Judge Tammy Riggs presided.
