Washoe County General Election ballots to be delivered to Reno this weekend

Washoe County voters will begin to receive their General Election ballots as early as Tuesday.

Washoe County voters will begin to receive their General Election ballots as early as Tuesday, Registrar of Voters Deanna Spikula announced today. The original proposed date ballots were to be sent from the printing vendor was Friday, October 2. Due to delays and high demand, the vendor will be sending the ballots over the weekend.

The registrar had decided to have the ballots mailed locally to expedite delivery rather than be mailed by the vendor. Had they been mailed by the vendor located out of state, there was the potential for a delay in residents receiving their ballots.

Nevada state statute requires ballots to be mailed 20 days prior to the election, while Washoe County’s standard operation is to mail them 30 days prior. The revised shipping schedule puts ballots in the mail well ahead of the state’s required timeline and within the county’s standards.

“I know our voters are anxious to receive their ballot, and we have been working with our vendor to print them as quickly as possible,” Spikula said. We will always seek the most efficient and secure process to run elections for the voters of Washoe County.”

Voters can track their ballot from moment it is received by U.S. Postal Service to the moment it is counted using a new tool called BallotTrax. The tool keeps a record of every time the ballot is scanned at every point in the process, much like a delivery by UPS or FedEx. Voters can sign up for BallotTrax at any time, and tracking will be available to those who sign up as soon as Monday. Voters can sign up for BallotTrax here: https://washoe.ballottrax.net/voter/

The Washoe County website has been updated to include a banner that will remain on the homepage through the election. This provides an easy point of access directly to the 2020 General Election information without having to navigate through the website.

The Washoe County Registrar of Voters Office is open every week day 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and information including Early Voting, Election Day, and ballot drop-off locations can be found on its website at www.washoecounty.us/voters
