Commissioners approve Canvass of the Vote and Order for the Primary Election
Reno, Nev. June 19, 2020. Commissioners heard a presentation on a recap of the 2020 Primary Election from Registrar of Voters, Deanna Spikula, during today's special meeting. The presentation included overview of election administration, overview of the all mail-in Primary Election, and election turnout and results.
“While the all mail-in Primary Election was unforeseen, we were pleased this year we could provide new tools for our voters like an interactive Sample Ballot, a Wait Times app and new Results Dashboard” said Spikula.
Additionally, Commissioner Vaughn Hartung added, “This was a challenging year, my thanks to you and your staff for adjusting your plans on the fly, well done.”
2020 Primary Election Final turnout by the numbers:
- Total turnout: 95,824 (32.8 percent)
- Democratic: 40,676 (38.82 percent)
- Republican: 40,036 (38.50 percent)
Breakdown:
- Early voting: 1,625
- Election Day in-person: 1,479
- Mail-in: 92,720
- 24.59 percent turnout from the 2016 Primary
- 14.81 percent turnout from the 2014 Mid-Term Primary
The Declaration of Canvass of the Vote and Order for 2020 Primary Election which gives Commissioners the opportunity for a review of the election results and note any errors within the election results. Commissioners approved the canvass unanimously, making the results final and official.
