Getting a Library card just got faster and easier.

The Washoe County Library System has been looking at ways to help our community access our digital collections of ebooks, audiobooks, and other online resources.  Although physical library materials are not available while the library system is temporarily closed, the library reminds the community that they can download ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines from the digital collection, and access a large variety of premium databases that are fun and educational for all ages.  Access to all of our online resources is free with a  Washoe County Library System card.

In order to provide quality free public access to Washoe County residents who may not have yet signed up for a library card, Washoe County Library System has implemented a way for the community to sign up for an instant digital card to access the variety of free resources and digital collections that are offered.  This new access will allow many first-time users to instantly access our digital collection without having to visit a library.  According to Washoe County Library System Director Jeff Scott " We are proud to introduce this new Instant Digital Card so that Washoe County residents can take advantage of the library's digital collection while our branches are closed. "  Scott continued "This new library card works as soon as someone registers and it will remain active until the libraries reopen."  Once the Washoe County Library System is able to re-open, anyone that signed up for a digital card may be able to convert it to a permanent library account.

With the launch of the new digital card, Washoe County Library has added new collections of online content, including audiobooks, ebooks for teens, elementary school math resources, and thousands of new digital magazines. They are also looking at  ways to launch a virtual Story Time, and are currently offering engaging activities for families on social media and through the email newsletter. Virtual reference assistance remains available to help meet the informational needs of the community and to assist with use of library resources.

These new services will help  the Washoe County Library System to continue to support their mission: to connect people with information, ideas and experiences to support an enriched and engaged community, one person at a time.
