No additional presumptive positive cases reported

Reno, Nev. March 11, 2020. The Washoe County Health District (WCHD) will not have a scheduled press briefing today, March 11, 2020. There are no additional presumptive positive COVID-19 cases in Washoe County and no other relevant COVID-19 updates to report to media or the public at this time.

We are aware of the World Health Organization's declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic. There is no direct impact of this declaration to WCHD at this time.

COVID-19 testing is continuing to occur and we are urging the public to take precaution to reduce their risk of getting sick, and preventing COVID-19, which are:

  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Cough or sneeze into your sleeve, or tissue
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Try alternatives to shaking hands, like an elbow bump
  • There is no recommendation to wear masks at this time to prevent yourself from getting sick
  • If possible, work from home
  • For businesses, go here for cleaning information

General information of COVID-19 can be found at www.washoecounty.us/covid19 or by calling Washoe 311 (Dial 3-1-1). Residents who are concerned they might have COVID-19 should read this. Patients with symptoms should call their health provider before going into their facility. The public can call the Health District with questions at 775-328-2427 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or call Washoe 311 (Dial 3-1-1) 24/7. We're experiencing high call volumes and we are working diligently to answer calls as quickly as possible.

If new information becomes available, WCHD will send a press release and potentially hold another press briefing. We will notify media as soon as possible if that occurs. Please let Scott Oxarart know if there are emails that need to be added to this press list, and feel free to use any footage from yesterday's briefing and past briefings

The Washoe County Health District is nationally accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board and has jurisdiction over all public health matters in Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County through the policy-making Washoe County District Board of Health. The District consists of five divisions: Administrative Health Services, Air Quality Management, Community and Clinical Health Services, Environmental Health Services and Epidemiology and Public Health Preparedness.
