Safety reminders ahead of thunderstorms, lightning and windy conditions
TMFPD & Washoe County share tips
Reno, Nev. Aug. 8, 2019. With lightning strikes sparking numerous fire starts yesterday, flash floods in the region with more thunderstorms and strong winds forecast today, Washoe County and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District would like to share safety reminders with residents:
- With possible thunderstorms, lightning and windy conditions, please avoid outdoor activity that could start a wildfire, including target shooting and campfires.
- Now is the time to create defensible space around your property.
- Should thunderstorms bring sudden rainfall, keep ditches & culverts around homes and property clear and remove any debris immediately. Even a small object can cause a backup and overwhelm ditches.
For updates on coming weather, please stay tuned through NWS Reno.
