Providing Free Meals To Kids This Summer!

Washoe County Library System is once again proud to partner with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada this summer to provide meals to all children. Beginning June 10, 2019, several library locations will host the Kids Cafe Summer Meals Program. The program delivers a FREE lunch to children right in the neighborhoods where they live, including at library locations where kids and teens are encouraged to spend some time reading while joining library staff for lunch.

Washoe County Library System understands and recognizes the vital service that the Food Bank of Northern Nevada provides in closing the outside-of-school nutrition gap for children. The Kids Cafe Free Summer Meal Program connects kids  ages 1-18 with free, nutritious meals that can help them thrive and help their family’s budget as well. The Kids Cafe program is designed to help fill the meal gap while children are out of school, so that they can get back to just being a kid.

As a partnering organization, the Washoe County Library System is able to help our community and distribute food directly to children and teens in need as a vital part of the emergency food chain. The library locations that will be participating in Kids Cafe include the Downtown Reno, Duncan/Traner, North Valleys, Sierra View, and Sparks Libraries.

Would you like to help?  The Washoe County Library System is looking for volunteers who may be able to help hand out the food to children this summer.  If you are interested in becoming a Kids Cafe Special Event volunteer please contact the Washoe County Library System to complete a volunteer application.
