#VegasStronger Calendar Unveiled

Events to Honor Victims, Show Gratitude for First Responders and a #VegasStronger Community

Reno, Nev. September 5, 2018. Local government agencies, churches, nonprofit organizations, and the resort industry unveiled an online #VegasStronger calendar of events and activities planned to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the 1 October tragedy. The calendar is available on the LasVegasNewswire site at: www.lasvegasnewswire.com/events.

 “The tragedy of 1 October will never be forgotten by our community and has touched all of us,” said Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly, chairman of the LVCVA’s Board of Directors.  “We organized this effort to share information with everyone about events and activities that are being held in honor of those who lost their lives or were injured, and to offer opportunities that nurture community healing, unity and resiliency.”

The calendar highlights events being held on Oct. 1 and in the days surrounding. It also offers a schedule of volunteer community service events called Becoming #VegasStronger organized by the resorts, faith-based and nonprofit groups in the Las Vegas Valley in honor of the victims of the tragedy and to support community resiliency.

“Catholic Charities, the United Way of Southern Nevada, and many other interfaith groups organized Becoming #VegasStronger because many people have a deep desire to do something that is helpful and kind immediately after and around the anniversary of tragedies,” said Deacon Tom Roberts, president and chief executive officer at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada “The 1 October attack hurt every member of our community and also served to bring us together in new ways. We are proud to work together to offer survivors of the tragedy, our residents and visitors opportunities to express love and caring in ways that promote goodwill and support for one another.”

Groups organizing memorial activities or volunteer events to honor all of those touched by 1 October are welcome to fill out an online form to have their event considered for posting on the calendar. The form is posted at https://www.lasvegasnewswire.com/submit-an-event. Additionally, the following are highlighted as key community events being held in recognition of 1 October to honor the victims of the attack, and encourage support of survivors, family members and all citizens affected by the tragedy:

Monday, Sept. 17 – Friday, Oct. 19

• Las Vegas Portraits Project Exhibit at the Clark County Government Center Rotunda at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway in downtown Las Vegas, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The exhibit features

portraits of the 58 victims who lost their lives in the 1 October attack painted by volunteer artists around

the world. Crosses that were put up at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign to memorialize those who died also will be on display. A public reception night for artists and family members will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 4.

Friday, September 28

• 9 a.m.-12 p.m. #VEGASSTRONGER Community Meal at Catholic Charities’ St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility, 1501 N. Las Vegas Blvd. Volunteer to help offer the gift of service to vulnerable men, women and children as we approach the one-year anniversary of 1 October. Your service will help us honor the victims, thank our first responders and continue the healing of our community. You are invited to serve a gourmet restaurant-style, full-service meal to our guests.

Sunday, Sept. 30

• 5 p.m. Interfaith Event, “Dear Love: A Ceremony of Help, Healing and Transformation,” Guardian Angel Cathedral, 302 Cathedral Way, Las Vegas, 89109, near the Encore Las Vegas.

Monday, Oct. 1

• 6:30 a.m. Sunrise Remembrance – Clark County, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Clark County Fire Department and the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center will host a sunrise remembrance at the Clark County Government Center amphitheater. The Academy Singers from the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts will perform in addition to a multijurisdictional honor guard. There will be speakers and a tribute that will include 58 seconds of silence. The event will be aired live on Clark County Television and at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov and www.Facebook.com/ClarkCountyNV.

• 6:30 p.m. Las Vegas Healing Garden New Remembrance Wall Dedication – The city of Las Vegas and the Get Outdoors Nevada organization, the nonprofit partner that manages the garden, are hosting the ceremony at the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden, located at 1015 S. Casino Center Blvd.

• 10:05 p.m. Reading of the Names Ceremony – The names of the 58 victims of the 1 October attack will be read at the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden, 1015 S. Casino Center Blvd.

• 10:01 p.m. Resort Marquee Tribute – Marques along the Las Vegas Strip and throughout the Las Vegas Valley will go dark in honor of the victims of 1 October. The Welcome to Las Vegas sign also will go dark for the tribute.
