WCDA Prosecution Outcome Involving Child Lewdness and Attempted Sexual Assault Case

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has released the sentencing outcome of a recent Child Lewdness prosecution that concluded last week when the defendant received a term of life in prison with the possibility of parole beginning after a minimum of 10 years has been served.  Eric Kortright, 30, from Madera, California, was convicted of one count of Lewdness with a Child Under 14 Years of Age and was also sentenced to an additional consecutive term of 8 to 20 years in prison for a count of Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child Under 14 Years of Age.  Kortright pled guilty to the two charges in June and based on the convictions, must serve a total of 18 years in prison before parole eligibility begins.

The case against Kortright began on October 8, 2017 when the Reno Police Department (RPD) responded to a report of a sexual assault of a 13 year old girl who had disclosed that she had been victimized by the defendant on several occasions during the year.  Kortright was an acquaintance of the victim’s family and had moved to Southern California around the time the abuse was discovered. RPD detectives continued to investigate the case and, based on interviews with the victim, defendant and other evidence, Kortright was arrested.

At sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Nickolas Graham argued that Kortright deserved every day of his life sentence behind bars for preying on a tender child in the Washoe County community and violating her trust.
