Truckee Meadows Fire Announces Green Waste Disposal on June 23

Fire season is here! Prepare! TMFPD offers Defensible Space Waste Collection

Reno, Nev. June 13, 2018 - Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) encourages Washoe County residents to stay FIRE SAFE, and reduce the risk of wildfires in the Truckee Meadows.  Take advantage of the upcoming Green Waste Collection Day and dispose of dry and dead vegetation, shrubs, tree branches, and other wildland fuels in an effort to create a defensible space to protect homes and property for wildfires.

Items can be dropped off at two Truckee Meadows Fire Stations.

WHAT:            TMFPD Green Waste Disposal Program

WHEN:            Saturday, June 23, 8am to Noon

WHERE:          Two locations are available for disposal:

• TMFPD Station 223 (130 Nectar Street, Reno, 89506)
• TMFPD Station 16 (1240 East Lake Boulevard, Washoe Valley 89704)

“Fire season is upon us, and we are pleased to be able to provide another opportunity for our citizens to protect themselves and their families, and safeguard their assets by maintaining defensive space around their homes and property in the event of a wildfire,” said Fire Chief Charlie Moore.  The two collection sites will accept items deemed to be removed for purposes of creating defensible space such as dry shrubs, weeds, and dead vegetation.

The TMFPD Green Waste Collection program is available to Washoe County residents only, to include residents in the City of Reno and Sparks, with proof of residency. Collections will not be accepted from landscape companies or contractors. 

Examples of items that cannot be accepted include grass clippings, food, household trash and garbage, construction materials, e-waste, appliances, tires, paint, furniture, batteries or any hazardous materials.
