New educational walking program brings reading to life at Davis Creek Regional Park
Reno, Nev. May 23, 2018. Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space and the Washoe County Library System are partnering to create a new program, the Story Stroll, that will bring both the love of the outdoors and reading off the page and into the park.
The Story Stroll is a walk along the Nature Trail at Davis Creek Regional Park with each page from the children’s picture book, “Pond Circle” by Betsy Franco, mounted along the trail for participants to read as they stroll around the pond, one page at a time. The Story Stroll hopes to promote reading, highlight our local parks and engage our community.
The community is invited to both Ranger-led and self-led Story Strolls beginning May 26 through June 9 with Washoe County Park Ranger, Nick Steuer.
WHAT: Story Stroll at Davis Creek Regional Park.
WHEN: Ranger-led strolls at 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays, May 26 through June 9 and will conclude with a Library-led activity. Self-led strolls are available May 26 through June 9 during park hours.
WHERE: Davis Creek Regional Park, 25 Davis Creek Rd., Washoe Valley, NV. Story Strolls will begin at the Nature Trail, a .7 mile loop.
DETAILS: The Story Stroll is free and participants are encouraged to document your stroll by using the hashtag #WCStoryStroll.
Story Stroll Schedule:
- May 26 through June 9: Self-led strolls during park hours
- May 26 – Bio-Blitz event starting at 9 a.m., Ranger-led stroll at 11:00 a.m. with Library activities
