Sober 24 Program honored with Public Service Award at 2018 Lifesavers Conference

Reno, Nev. April 23, 2018. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recognized Washoe County’s Sober 24 Program during a prestigious award ceremony in San Antonio, TX, for its commitment to eliminating drunk and drug-impaired driving in Nevada.

The NHTSA’s Public Service Awards at the 2018 Lifesavers Conference recognize and honor people and organizations who exemplify high standards of achievement and commitment in the field of traffic safety. Washoe County’s Chief Joe Ingraham, Department of Alternative Sentencing, accepted the prestigious award on behalf of the program, pictured below.

Washoe County’s Sober 24 Program strives to combat impaired driving and to reduce the number of DUIs and related costs by motivating offenders to change their behaviors. The Sober 24 Program allows offenders to test for alcohol, drugs or controlled substances regularly, with facility hours open twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
