TMFPD Advises Residents of Burning Restrictions, Storm Preparation
Reno, NV. April 5, 2018. TMFPD announces that pile burning will be closed temporarily and reminds residents to prepare for the upcoming storm.
With the onset of another atmospheric river, TMFPD is closing pile burning from Thursday, April 5, 2018, through Saturday, April 7, 2018, due to the high winds that are forecast in advance of this storm. Truckee Meadows Fire is also requesting that residents prepare for the storm by securing objects that could be damaged or dislodged during wind events, and clear ditches and gutters of debris in preparation for heavy rains. Residents are also reminded of flooding potential along some rivers, streams and roadways. Those areas affected by previous flooding should be prepared for this storm as well.
"We request all residents that have conducted pile burning recently to ensure ashes are wet and cold to the touch," TMFPD Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention Lisa Beaver said. "Embers can rekindle days after they appear to be out, especially in high winds. We are restricting open burning until the winds have passed and moisture has saturated the area."
Sand bags are available for residents throughout Washoe County. Sandbag locations and additional information are available here.
