Volunteers sought for Washoe County Audit Committee

Reno, Nev. Dec. 18, 2017. The Washoe County Board of Commissioners has two openings for volunteers from the community to serve on the Washoe County Audit Committee.
Membership Requirements: The committee must comprise at least three voting members appointed by the Washoe County Board of Commissioners (a Washoe County Commissioner will serve as one of the three voting members). The two-year term starts early 2018, and Audit Committee voting members shall be independent. CPA, Financial and/or audit experience is preferred. Members shall not accept any consulting, advisory, or other compensatory fee from Washoe County and shall not be an affiliated person with Washoe County or any subsidiary thereof.
Time Commitment: The Committee is required to meet four times a year or more frequently as circumstances require.
Authority: The purpose of the Audit Committee is to assist the Board of County Commissioners in fulfilling its policy requirements in accordance with Washoe County Code by providing oversight over the County’s financial statements, the systems of internal controls, the internal audit plans and reports, and the independent external auditor’s assessment of financial statements. The Audit Committee is also to provide open communications between the Board of County Commissioners, the County Manager, Internal Audit, and the independent external auditors.
