Sierra Donor Services recognizes team for commitment to organ and tissue donation
Reno, Nev. December 1, 2017. The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office received the Shining Light on Donation Award from Sierra Donor Services, a leading non-profit organization specializing in organ and tissue donation, for the office’s commitment and service to organ and tissue donation.
“Sierra Donor Services has been a vital community partner in northern Nevada for over 40 years. Over 60,000 transplantable tissue gifts to others were made possible because of the generosity of over 1,700 Nevadans who became donors since 2010. Having a strong working relationship with the entire team at the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office is key to making donation happen” says Monica Johnson, Executive Director, Sierra Donor Services.
“I am honored to receive the award, and proud of the hard work and dedication of my staff,” says Dr. Laura D. Knight, Washoe County Chief Medical Examiner & Coroner. “I value our partnerships with the community agencies that provide organ and tissue donation, and I look forward to continuing our work supporting the gift of life.”
The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office serves 19 counties in Nevada and California and handles more than 4,600 reported deaths each year.
