New Judge Sworn into Second Judicial District Court

Honorable Kathleen M. Drakulich now presides at Second Judicial District Court, Department One
Reno, Nev. August 28, 2017. Washoe County Second Judicial District Court is pleased to announce on Monday, August 21, 2017, Kathleen M. Drakulich was sworn in to Department One, a department of the Second Judicial District Court.
“I am humbled and honored to serve with the judges of the Second Judicial District Court,” remarks Judge Drakulich. “I am dedicated to performing my judicial functions in a manner that benefits the excellent reputation my colleagues have established.”
On June 30, 2017, Governor Brian Sandoval appointed Judge Drakulich to the Second Judicial District Court, Department One to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Janet Berry. In appointing Judge Drakulich, Governor Sandoval highlighted that she was involved in some of the most complicated and dynamic energy and natural resource issues in the past few decades, as well as served as a criminal prosecutor, and has broad private practice experience. Governor Sandoval said Judge Drakulich is “a seasoned, thoughtful and tough litigator with a deep understanding of the legal process.”
Prior to her appointment, Judge Drakulich was a partner at the law firm McDonald Carano, where she focused on issues related to energy, environment, and natural resources. She started her career in the Washoe County District Attorney's Office, where she served as a prosecutor. Judge Drakulich has also served as assistant general counsel for Nevada's largest electric service providers and as private counsel for Nevada's largest energy users. She has extensive experience in legislative and public policy matters, including her leadership roles with several boards and committees assisting in the betterment of the Washoe County community. Judge Drakulich was admitted to the Nevada Bar in 1986 and the California Bar in 1987. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley and her Juris Doctorate from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
“Judge Drakulich is a welcomed addition to the Second Judicial District Court. She will serve with compassion, wisdom, and integrity,” stated Chief Judge Flanagan.
