Permitted burning will close on Sunday, May 14, 2017.
Reno, Nevada. May 11, 2017. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District announces the end of the permitted burn season.
The current burn season allowed residents to burn vegetation and ditches for vegetation management from March 4 to May 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. Fuel moisture content and the onset of warm weather requires permitted burning to close.
“We are surrounded by heavy fuels that are quickly drying out,” Fire Chief Charles Moore said. “Residents had over 30 permissible days of burning to rid their property of excess vegetation, and create defensible space around their homes. We appreciate their efforts to safeguard our community, and we thank Washoe County Air Quality for their cooperation to permit burning.”
May is Wildfire Awareness Month, and residents have several Junk the Juniper opportunities to dispose of landscape and yard debris. For more information about fire prevention, please visit the District’s website.
Citizens that burn after the close of the permitted season are subject to fines.
