Stuff a Bus for seniors this holiday season
Senior Giving Drive goes through December 7, 2016
Reno, Nevada (November 14, 2016) — The City of Reno, Washoe County and the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) are partnering again this season on the Holiday Senior Giving and Stuff a Bus program.
The donation drive begins on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 and ends on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. The organizations are asking for NEW unused items for seniors in the community. A list of needed items — such as new jackets, hats and gloves, sweat shirts and pants, toiletries and bus passes — is available at Reno.gov/SeniorGiving.
"This is a great opportunity to extend a helping hand to the seniors in our community who may be struggling to make ends meet,” said Reno City Councilmember and RTC Commissioner Neoma Jardon. “I have been so proud and thankful to see the generosity of so many community members who donated to past Senior Giving efforts."
Organizers are hoping to beat last winter’s Stuff a Bus donations, which included 32 bags of new clothing, 27 new winter coats, 66 winter hats, scarves and gloves, 18 bags of sleepwear, 51 new blankets, 54 bags of personal hygiene products, 8 bags of pet supplies, 15 gift cards and $120 in cash donations.
Starting on November 15, donations can be delivered to these locations:
- The first or second floor of Reno City Hall
- The Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center
- Teglia’s Paradise Park
- RTC Administrative Offices at 1105 Terminal Way
- Washoe County Administration Building at 1001 E. 9th Street.
Donated items will be delivered to Washoe County Senior Services at the end of the program and distributed to seniors in need.
The drive will culminate with a Senior Giving Stuff a Bus event on Wednesday, December 7. An RTC bus will be parked in front of Greater Nevada Field between 4 and 7 p.m. People who donate during those hours will receive a free ice skating rental coupon for certain days in December and January.
The Stuff a Bus event coincides with the City of Reno’s annual Tree Lighting event, which will also take place on December 7 at 5 p.m., outside of Reno City Hall.
