Rancho San Rafael Regional Park is hosting Youth Fishing Education Day Saturday, Oct. 15.
Reno, Nevada. Oct. 12, 2016. Fall is a great time to learn how to fish in the Truckee Meadows and Washoe County’s Rancho San Rafael Regional Park is proud to announce it is hosting Youth Fishing Education Day Saturday, Oct. 15, for children interested.
Students from the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology (AACT) are organizing this event. Earlier this month, AACT students completed a service project at and around Herman’s Pond to make the area more accessible and snag free for anglers. Dead branches and cattails were removed, overhanging limbs were trimmed back, and additional shoreline was cleared for fishing while leaving optimal aquatic habitat.
Stations will be set up at the park teaching children about fish ecology, fly tying, effective knot tying and the basics of fly fishing. Children between the ages of six and 12 are welcome to attend. Parents are encouraged to join their child for Youth Fishing Education Day. If you have fishing gear, feel free to bring it. There will be a limited amount of fishing gear available for those who don’t have their own. AACT will be setting up the stations for Youth Fishing Education Day.
