Chief Moore and commissioners thank firefighters and volunteers for their hard work during fire season.

Reno, Nevada. September 20, 2016. At Tuesday’s Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) Board of Fire Commission meeting, Chief Charles Moore gave commissioners a thorough report of this fire season, calling it one of the busiest in the past few years.

TMFPD saw a 53 percent increase in the number of fire incidents in June, and a 96 percent increase in fire incidents this past July compared to those same months in 2015.

“The majority of this fire activity was in the North Valleys and Red Rock areas,” Chief Moore said. “The responsiveness of our volunteers was instrumental. While we are not out of fire season yet, I am proud to say that no homes were lost in the District, and no firefighters were injured as a result of any of these wildfires, thanks in large part to the dedication and training of our career and volunteer crews.”

Chief Moore and Commissioners thanked Truckee Meadows firefighters and the Truckee Meadows Volunteer Firefighters for playing a substantial role in saving homes and keeping citizens safe this summer.

Chief Moore also thanked the 44 TMFPD firefighters who worked out-of-district fire assignments, tirelessly providing resources to 20 large-scale incidents this past summer not just locally but regionally.

In addition to thanking firefighters, the Board proclaimed October as Fire Prevention Month. Chief Moore urged citizens to test their smoke alarms and have a working one in every bedroom. Smoke alarms should be tested every six months and replaced every ten years.
