Be Prepared For Wildfire

Preparation and planning are key components for the safety of your family and home.

Reno, Nevada. Sept. 9, 2016. In recognition of September being National Preparedness Month, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) is reminding residents that preparedness is the key in the event of an emergency.   

A wildfire can move quickly. Preparation and planning are key components for the safety of your family and home in the event of a wildfire or other emergencies in your community. Prepare an evacuation plan and practice to be sure that you are ready. 

“Preparing and practicing your evacuation plan is the most important thing you can do to be prepared for evacuation in the event of a wildfire or other emergency,” said TMFPD Fire Marshal Amy Ray.

It is easy to prepare for an evacuation in case of a wildfire event or other emergency. Prepare a kit with items such glasses, prescription medications for people and pets, and copies of important documents and keep them in an area close to the door. Having a kit will allow residents to evacuate quickly if need be.

Residents are also encouraged to sign up for Code Red to receive regional alerts when there is the need for an evacuation in an emergency situation, be it a wildfire, earthquake or a flood.
