Washoe County partners with City of Reno and RTC for Senior Giving program

Post on behalf of the City of Reno

Reno, Nevada. May 9, 2016 — The City of Reno, Washoe County Senior Services and the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) are partnering to help local seniors in need during Older Americans Month this May by sponsoring the Stuff-a-Bus donation drive.

From May 9-30, the community can drop off donations at these locations during normal business hours:

  • First and second floors of Reno City Hall (1 E. First Street)
  • Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center (1301 Valley Road)
  • Washoe County Administration Complex (1001 E. Ninth Street)
  • RTC Administrative Building (1105 Terminal Way)
  • Neil Road Recreation Center (3925 Neil Road)
  • Teglia’s Paradise Park Activity Center (2745 Elementary Drive)

The community-wide drive concludes on Tuesday, May 31 from 4-7 p.m., when the community is invited to drop off donations to help fill a 40-foot RTC electric bus in front of Greater Nevada Field on Evans Avenue. People who donate at that time will receive a buy-one-get-one ticket for a Reno Aces game valid from May 31 through June 7.

Items needed include slippers, lightweight sweaters, jackets, pajamas, personal hygiene items (soap, toothbrushes, denture cleansers), bath towels, washcloths, small fans, adult diapers and grocery/pharmacy gift cards. Checks made payable to Washoe County Senior Services will also be accepted. For a complete list of items, please visit Reno.gov/SeniorGiving.

Donated items will be delivered to Washoe County Senior Services at the end of the program and distributed to seniors in need.

The Stuff-a-Bus donation drive would not be possible without the help of local sponsors, including Chase International, Senior Care Plus/Hometown Health, Circus Circus, NV Energy, Plato’s Closet, Clothes Mentor, Lili’s Restaurant, The Continuum, Sanford Center for Aging, The Wedding Library, The Little Thrift Shop, Saint Thomas Aquinas Cathedral, MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks and the Reno Aces.
