Commissioners proclaim October 2015 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Reno, Nevada. Oct. 20, 2015. At Tuesday’s Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting, the BCC proclaimed October 2015 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and announced their full support of Susan G. Komen Northern Nevada.

Nearly 300 Washoe County women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Founded in 1998, Susan G. Komen Northern Nevada is the largest non-government funder of breast cancer research, raising more than $3.2 million to fund local breast cancer and breast health programs.

The Board accepted donations and proclaimed the following:

  • The Board proclaimed Oct. 18-24, as Friends of Libraries Week.
  • The Board accepted a $140 cash donation from members of the Truckee/Reno Bridge Club to Washoe County Regional Animal Services.
  • The Board also accepted cash donations  for Social Services.
  • The Board of County Commissioners also held a concurrent meeting with the Washoe County Library Board of Trustees and discussed future plans for County libraries. The meeting included a report on the recruitment for a new library director, following the retirement of current Director of Libraries, Arnie Maurins in January.
