NDOT reopens SR 447

SR 447 reopens after flash flooding closed it over the weekend.

Reposted on behalf of the Nevada Department of Transportation

Carson City, Nevada. July 13, 2015. State Route 447 (near Gerlach) is now open following flash flooding last week. Crews worked 24 hours a day throughout the weekend and used 6,000 plus tons of fill material to shore up eroded roadside shoulders and make the entire road safe and passable.

State Route 447 runs between Wadsworth and Gerlach to the east of Pyramid Lake. An approximately five-mile portion of the road between Empire and Empire Farms Road was closed to traffic (between mile markers 61 and 66) over the weekend.

NDOT routinely clears state road storm drains, culverts and ditches on State Route 447 and throughout the region. Storm drains and ditches were cleared prior to the storm, but torrential Thursday evening rains drove water and debris across the roadway and substantially eroded roadside shoulders. For safety of  the traveling public, NDOT crews closed the road just before 9 p.m., Thursday evening. Crews worked 24 hours a day since Friday to ge the road back open.

State road conditions and updates are available by visiting www.nvroads.com or dialing 511 before driving.
