Skan pleads guilty to stalking local high school girls

Defendant inappropriately videotaped teenage girls during high school sporting events.

Reno, Nevada. April 8, 2015.  Rodney Skan, age 60, pleaded guilty April 8 to Stalking (second offense). 

Skan admitted to videotaping four local high school girls during fall 2013.   At the time of the offense the victims were 14, 15, and two were 17 years old.  Police found over 175 hours of videotape footage taken at local high school girls sporting events during a search of Skan’s Reno motel room. Some of the footage dated to 2004.  The videos depict Skan repeatedly zooming in on the clothed breasts, buttocks, and genital areas of the girls as they competed.  Skan fixated on particular girls, following them to multiple games throughout the season. 

Skan faces up to 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.  He is scheduled for sentencing June 3 in front of District Court Judge Lynne Simons. 

This is Skan’s second stalking offense.  He was previously convicted of misdemeanor stalking in Douglas County for similar conduct at Douglas High School.   In that case, parents at a school sporting event noticed what they believed to be suspicious filming of students being conducted by Skan and reported it to police. 

“Skan’s stalking of these student athletes was discovered due to the vigilance of the reporting parties which is a reminder to the public at-large to remain watchful of suspicious behavior when in public areas frequented by children,”  said Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks. 

The case was investigated by the Washoe County School District Police, the Douglas County Sheriff and was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Amos Stege.
