Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District to permit open burning

Open burning allowed from Feb. 14 to March 15, 2015.

Reno, Nevada. Feb. 10, 2015. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD), in cooperation with the Washoe County Health District, will permit open burning for a limited period of time from Saturday, Feb. 14, through Sunday, March 15, 2015.

Residents of the TMFPD will be allowed to burn yard debris and ditches for spring irrigation only. Permits with all required restrictions and information may be downloaded at www.washoecounty.us/tmfpd. In addition, residents who will be burning Feb.14-Feb.28, need to fill out the Permit Request form from the Washoe County Health District. Burning must conclude by 2 p.m. each day and residents must adhere to the regulations listed on the burn permit. Residents are subject to fines if they do not follow the regulations of the permit or burn outside the permissible burn times and date. Burning of material in a burn barrel or the burning of trash is not allowed at any time. 

TMFPD asks all residents to follow the guidelines on the burn permit and pay close attention to the winds and proximity to structures before burning. Residents are required to call the TMFPD burn line prior to burning at (775) 326-6000 ext. 3 to verify it is a permissible burn day for TMFPD. Those residents burning Feb. 14-28, can only burn in compliance with the Green-Yellow-Red Burn Code and  confirm that it is permissible to burn by visiting http://www.ourcleanair.com/, to confirm the burn code is Green before starting a fire. If there are predicted high winds or red-flag warnings at any time during the open burning period, burning will be shut down until conditions improve.
