Volunteer Duties
Please specify your area(s) of interest: Book Mending & Cleaning: repair mylar jackets, loose spines, and torn pages; clean books; buff CDs and DVDs. Clerical Support: Copy/collate; edit & proofread fliers; fax & email program information; filing; answering phones; shipping and receiving assistance. Computer Assistance: Hand out internet guest passes; assist public with basic use of computers, creating email accounts, and printing; assist with technology training classes. Interlibrary Loan: Unpack materials arriving from other libraries; repackage materials for return shipping. Maker Services - branch: Assist with DIY Repair clinics; assist patrons using maker equipment. Maker Services - The Quad: Assist at The Quad, the makerspace at the Downtown Reno Library. Programs & Outreach: Assist with the creation and distribution of outreach materials; set up and arrange furniture for library events; provide assistance during programs and help clean up after events; assist with arts, and crafts, seasonal decorating, and bulletin boards. Public Area: Assist with shelving books and stack maintenance; load/unload and sort items onto carts; assist with book sale and evaluating donations; restock and straighten literature and replenish supplies; search for and retrieve specific materials listed on a report; maintain appearance of public areas, including tidying and cleaning tables, shelves, chairs, and computers; water, trim and maintain indoor plants as needed. Technical Services: Unpack, pre-process, and dispatch materials to branches; online record searching and retrieval; packing bins for pickup; miscellaneous office duties. Volunteer Trainer: Instruct volunteers on how to mend and clean books and maintain library materials.
